Here’s a link to a survey of polls on Trump’s favorability ratings:

    http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/donald-trump-favorable-rating

As of two days ago, a combination of 105 polls showed Trump with 36.5% of Americans having a favorable opinion of him. 58.2% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of him. The question I have is whether or not people will vote their opinions. For example, the Clintons don’t score very high in my personal favor but I will still vote for Hillary if she’s the nominee. Hell, I’ll vote for Bozo the clown before I vote for a Republican.

Another link if you don’t have it:

Sorry you’re having a rough time. Our door is open if you need to get away.

And I know that advice is blocking but whoever told your staff that they need to use Outlook in order to have an email with a Grace Church domain name doesn’t know what s/he’s talking about. At St. James our emails were all @stjameskeene.com or @stjameskeene.org and we all used the regular old gmail web interface. And my @sometimeaway.com address is accessed through gmail. You just have to register your domain name through Google Apps. I have the Google Apps Legacy from back when it was free. But non-profits can get a free Google Apps Work account (https://support.google.com/nonprofits/answer/3367223?hl=en&rd=1).

Even if you don’t do it that way, you can still just have them set it up to forward your office emails to your gmail account and set up your gmail account so that the “reply-to” for those incoming emails is your Grace Account. So the person who emails you at Grace never sees that their email is actually going to your gmail account and, whenever you leave the position, you just turn off the forwarding and you no longer receive Grace emails… I’d be willing to talk with your tech people if it would help. FWIW…

  • From David Jensen on dreaming about my harpsichord

I really do recommend purchasing an upgrade kit for your Z-box. It includes new, lighter, Delrin jacks, upper and lower guides and hardware. The reliability of these jacks is pretty good, and they are easy to adjust and regulate.
If you want to get the very best out of your Z-box, consider wood jacks. Even as a long-term harpsichord maker, I have no real fix on why wood jacks sound better, but the fact is, they do. Kind of an amazingly good difference in sound.
Of course, it’s just another dream, unless you have a local harpsichord maker who can do the transformation from plastic to wood for you.

    • From jupiterj on dreaming about my harpsichord

thanks for the comment. I did indeed purchase an upgrade kit and my wife is helping me do it. We are to the point of some basic voicing. Thanks for the encouragement. I will definitely post progress on my blog.

Reminds me that we went to see Athol Fugard’s play The Island when we visited Sarah in England years ago. The play is a rewriting of Antigone in South Africa and also the play Antigone is itself contained within Fugard’s play. The major theme is the conflict between the law of man and the law of gods. Apartheid being the law of man which can and should be broken in the name of a higher truth of humanity (God).

    • From Elizabeth on classical jupe

I think you and I saw this play together with mom and Sarah.

      • From jupiterj on classical jupe

I remember the idea of this play, but neither Eileen nor I can remember attending it with you and/or Sarah. But as Eileen just pointed out, we ARE old.

        : )

  • From Rhonda on Criminals

We’re doing that J Ferguson piece on Thursday night! It is pretty cool.

So sorry to hear that the Jupe-mobile has met it’s end. Farewell, good and faithful servant. Speaking of the junkyard – did you watch that Tom Waits clip I sent you?
Tom Waits IS you in that story. I find it hilarious every time I watch it, but it just occurred to me one day out of the blue that you might identify with his story.

If you need us to bring your mom’s bed piece anywhere, just ask. We’d be happy to help.

    • From jupiterj on Criminals

I did watch that clip. I’m familiar with Waits. In fact I’m a long time admirer of his work. It’s a big compliment to be compared to him. We’ll be contacting you about the bed. Thanks!

  • From Mark on mental illness?

I read some of David Orr’s book on Frost’s poem last fall. Returned it to the library unfinished but I keep watching for an inexpensive used copy. I thought it was pretty good, both on Frost and also the poem. We heard Orr and a couple of other people interviewed on Diane Rehm while driving over to your house at Thanksgiving.

Are you taking time off after Easter? I always used that carrot to help me get through Holy Week. And I never counted it as vacation. Rather I saw it as a sort of comp time for the all the time and energy (psychic and physical) that went into Lent and Holy Week. Our door is always open.

  • From jupiterj on mental illness?

I’ll have to check out Orr. Thanks for your suggestion about taking time off. Eileen and I are seriously considering it. I have a doctor’s appointment the Monday after Easter, Mom has one on Tuesday. We’ll probably leave after that for a visit through Saturday. I will confirm it with you.

  • From Sarah on mental illness?

I thought you said your appointment was the Tuesday after Easter… I know your said grandma’s was on Tuesday when we spoke the other day – but before that, I could have sworn yours was on Tuesday. I only remembered because I also have an appointment on Tuesday. 🙂 did you change it?

    • From jupiterj on mental illness?

I just double checked and it’s on Monday, Mar 28 at 11 AM.

  • From Elizabeth on 1 down, 4 to go; bach; and footnotes

I feel so grateful to have just barely missed the battle of “trigger warnings” that need to be issued before certain ideas or situations are discussed in an academic setting. Seems so plastic/fake to me.

  • From jupiterj on 1 down, 4 to go; bach; and footnotes

Not to mention not conducive to learning, critical thinking and being exposed to and analyzing ideas.

  • From Mark on made it

We can talk some while you’re over here this week but I thought you might be interested to know that, at St. James, we had no less than three proofreaders for every weekly Sunday service booklet. The administrator would finish the bulletin on Wednesday and the send PDFs out to three volunteers who would proof it and get back to her by Thursday. She printed on Thursday afternoon or Friday. I seldom proofed the bulletin because we had those volunteers. I would bet you all could set something like that up.

We also two wonderful volunteers who had a love for (and sophistication about) liturgy who worked directly with me to put together special service leaflets: Holy Week, Burials, Weddings. They produced a product that was as good as the weekly service leaflet and it took a lot of pressure off of the administrator. The trick is being willing to put the time into training volunteers. Too often admin people see it as too time consuming. But once the time is invested the volunteers can save tons of time for the administrator. We had a 30 hour / week administrator and five to six office volunteers. The volunteers loved it because it put them right at the heart of a thriving organization, making contributions that were clearly valued. And the administrator increasingly became more of a volunteer coordinator and my personal assistant. Wins all around.

  • From Rhonda on still on vacation

Maybe you checked him out, and he’s not for you, which is totally fine, but if you forgot, just mentioning John Gibson again…
    Happy vacationing!

    • From jupiterj on still on vacation

I did check out John Gibson, thank you. I admit that when I saw he had a bachelors from Hope it did not encourage me (his degrees from Western and Loyola are more encouraging, but he did return to this area). Thanks for mentioning again! How did you find him?

  • From Elizabeth on still on vacation

Thanks for the vacation update! I love you!

    • From jupiterj on still on vacation

  • From Rhonda on old fashioned jupe

I hoped you weren’t boycotting because of my boring program!
It was a really good crowd (if a bit thin on organists…), and we were really pleased. We played mvts 1 and 4 of the Eben Okna, which was by far the toughest thing, both for the performers and listeners, and we were really happy with that. We thought it went well, and people said they really liked it.
Now it’s just that post-concert let down.
    Spring break, yipee…

    • From jupiterj on old fashioned jupe

I don’t where you get the notion that my actions were boycotting you in any way.

  • From Elizabeth on maybe i AM mentally ill

Typo in post title confused me!

    • From jupiterj on maybe i AM mentally ill

Dang! It’s fixed now. And I had Eileen proof this one as well!

  • From Rhonda on old fashioned jupe

Oh, I just meant, when I noticed you weren’t there on Sunday, then I thought “Maybe Steve looked at my program, and thought, what a boring bunch of pieces, think I’ll skip that one.”. Which is obviously not boycotting either. I was just being silly about that.
But I guess it would have been clearer to say, “I’d hoped you weren’t…”
And maybe I figure that you sometimes don’t attend things because of your philosophical biases, so I shouldn’t rule that out.
Anyway, the point was, I was relieved to read you’d wanted to come and then just missed it because of loosing track of time. I always appreciate it when you come to hear me play, and value what you think!

    • From jupiterj on old fashioned jupe

No biggie really. I just wondered where the idea came from and it sounds like you had it before reading my post instead of reacting to it. makes sense.
