  • From Mark on reading music on my tablet!

The bishop of New Hampshire preaches using his iPad. I would be too nervous that the tech would fail me in the middle of the sermon. But it’s a great use of the technology…

  • From jupiterj on reading music on my tablet!

I was inspired a year or so ago when I attended a recital in Saugatuck. The players were a husband/wife team. The husband at the piano was using a tablet instead of music. The violinist wife eschewed the tech. They discussed with the audience during the intermission. Although I was aware of this tech before I hadn’t seen it used. The pianist was quite enthusiastic about it and did not seem to experience difficulties in the performance. It will be awhile, however, before I trust the tech in performance. I already trust tech each time I perform on the organ since it too suffers failures from time to time. Heh.

  • From Mark on hymn talk

Astounding that they omitted that verse! Both because of what it offered and also because of who was on the SCCM at the time…

    • From jupiterj on hymn talk

I was surprised. Surely it was a choice and not an omission. Who knows?

Mark was at a Holland something meeting recently, which included a segment on shopping and supporting local businesses. Apparently, when you shop at locally owned pharmacies, such as Pauls or … that other place , a pretty large percentage of what you spend stays in your community. And perhaps the employees of a small, locally owned pharmacy would be more helpful and try to work with you, when this keeps happening.
    Just a thought!

    • From jupiterj on a record, books and a creepy young woman

Good thought. Since it’s not really the Meijer Pharmacy’s fault that we’re having problems (only bugged at their rudeness), we’ll probably continue to use their pharmacy due to its convenience.

  • From Jane Edberg on who is jupiter jenkins?

Please give me credit for my image: three faces blurred of woman image next to “Carson puts it this way: “To be a writer is to construct a big, loud, shiny centre of self from ” text.
    Thank you, Jane Edberg

    • From jupiterj on who is jupiter jenkins?

Jane Edberg, I would love to give you credit, but I can’t find the blog post to which you are referring.

  • From Rhonda on energy pie, a friend's stroke and dreams in the hands of demons

That’s a great picture of Joy and Chuck.

  • From Sarah on energy pie, a friend's stroke and dreams in the hands of demons

So, where is this short story? Can I read it?

    • From jupiterj on energy pie, a friend's stroke and dreams in the hands of demons

I will look for it and let you know. I’m pretty sure I have it somewhere but it’s way pre-computer so it’s only in hard copy.

  • From Sarah on a record, books and a creepy young woman

    Really? I’d change pharmacies…

It seems crazy to me that you would get those crazy comments from scientists, of all people – referring to the article about The Trouble with Girls. You’d think the one people who understand that women’s brains are NOT inferior to men’s would be scientists (I’m mostly referring to some of the bits right at the end of the article)

  • From jupiterj on 40 years with Eileen and some shop talk

It does, indeed, seem crazy to me as well.

  • From Sarah on this and that

I like it when you post left wing stuff.

Did you catch my whatsapp message to you about the new comments page? it’s made your menu bar go a bit awry – I thought you might want to adjust the names of those other pages, to make it all fit on one line. x x

  • From jupiterj on this and that

I did catch that you were messing with new comments. I don’t see any new comments on my homepage. What does it do? I can see my menu bar links. The extra one pops into a new line.

  • From admin on this and that

Sorry, I wasn’t very precise in my last message – I installed a plugin to your site called Show All Comments which helps you create a Page which will display all comments posted on the site – So I set up a page which is now called ‘comments’. When I did this, it automatically added my new page to your menu bar at the top of the website. I intially called it All Comments Page, but this took up too much space on the menu bar, so I edited it down to ‘comments’. However, this is still taking up so much space on the menu bar, that it’s pushed the ‘who is jupiterjenkins?’ to a second line.

Have you clicked on the ‘comments’ page yet? It’s quite cool – shows you all the comments made on the site (pages and posts), with the most recent ones on top. The only thing I wish it did was give a date/time stamp next to each one….

I can always take this away if you don’t like it – but I seem to recall we chatted about this a while back, and you said it sounded like something you wouldn’t mind. I’ve always wanted a page where I can just look at the latest comments to all posts – rather than try to hunt down on various posts if there were any updates.

Nice post! What a lovely thing to meet a young, bright musician.

    • From jupiterj on pleasant suprise

Thank you! Lovely and rare in Holland Michigan. They are here probably but my path doesn’t cross with too many of them.

The pic of Dad holding a standing baby is David. There are at least three photos of Dad holding a standing baby: one of him with you, one of him with me, one of him with David. The easiest way to determine the identity of the baby is by looking closely at Dad. The one with him holding you is skinny Dad in his twenties. The one with me is heavier Dad in his thirties. And the one with David is sideburns Dad in his (late) forties.

  • From Mark on snarky puppy and a few fun facts

Thanks for the heads up on Snarky Puppy. I like them very much!

    • From jupiterj on snarky puppy and a few fun facts

So far I have only found three musicians who recognized them: a young man I keep track of on Facebook who plays in a working band, Jonathon Fegel the guy I played with on the streets of Holland for a while and Jordan Van Hemert, the sax player I know. Jordan had some other bands to check out which I will post after I do so.

  • From Mark on laying off the booze for a bit

Snacking and drinking… I too have found that when I drink I tend to snack. That said, I’ve been reading the book Slim by Design which is based on research into how the way we set up our kitchens and environment significantly impacts our weight. A light and easy read… I have it as an ebook…

In our new house, we have our family room upstairs and our kitchen downstairs. Once we get the kitchen set up the plan is to eat dinner there, as opposed to in the family room. I have already found that storing snack food downstairs and at another end of the house has led to less snacking. If I go downstairs to get a drink, by the time I get there I have often changed my mind about the snack. Not sure how this will play out in the long run but I’ve lost weight since we moved and currently are doing a lot of physical stuff…

Speaking of backups… I have a subscription to a cloud backup service with up to 10 different computers, unlimited cloud backup. If you want, you can install it on your machines. Right now I think the only computers I have it on are my desktop, my laptop and Leigh’s laptop so I have plenty of installs left. It runs constantly in the background backing up changed files. Since you have a faster service the upload wouldn’t take so long. Occasionally, when we’re watching something that’s on my desktop over the home network, I will suspend the backup for a few hours just to speed up the computer.

At any rate, let me know if you’re interested… The company is called Crashplan. My subscription is paid for something like the next six years. They kept sending me incredibly low priced offers to extend the subscription and expand the number of computers I could install it on…

    Happy July 4 weekend…
